@danixsoft/hooks

Open-source, SSR-safe React hooks library

In short: @danixsoft/hooks is an in-house DanixSoft product (Open Source / Developer Tools): Open-source, SSR-safe React hooks library. Daniyal Alam built it — product decisions, architecture and code. Live at react-hooks.danixsoft.com.

A TypeScript React hooks library published to npm under the MIT licence: 40+ SSR-safe hooks with zero runtime dependencies, shipped as ESM and CommonJS, with a documentation site and generated API reference.

@danixsoft/hooks social card: “The React hooks you keep rewriting, written once.”

The problem

Teams re-implement the same browser hooks — storage, media queries, debouncing, observers, timers — in every project, and naïve versions break under server-side rendering.

The solution

One well-tested package of isomorphic hooks with React as the only peer dependency and side-effect-free exports, so bundlers keep only what is imported.

My role

I built it: the commit history of its repository is mine — product decisions, architecture and code.

DanixSoft team

Open-source library maintained by DanixSoft (MIT).

Technical challenges

The engineering problems this build had to get right.

  • Hooks that stay safe during server rendering
  • Zero runtime dependencies without giving up ergonomics

Architecture

Frontend
Next.js documentation site
Backend
TypeScript package built with tsup, React 18+ peer dependency
Infrastructure
Vitest + Testing Library, coverage in GitHub Actions, npm

Implementation — what shipped

Hooks for state, storage, events, observers, timers, forms, media and scrolling
ESM + CommonJS builds with type definitions (tsup)
Docs site with guides and interactive examples
TypeDoc API reference and llms.txt
Semantic versioning with a Keep a Changelog history

Engineering notes

Lesson for similar Open Source builds: design for hooks that stay safe during server rendering and zero runtime dependencies without giving up ergonomics up front — these are the parts that are expensive to retrofit once the feature list grows.
